New Essay: Central Heating

For awhile now, I’ve been working on a story centered in the autumn of 2013, a season that found me reeling from a breakup, learning how to teach, and living on a dead warship with no bathroom.

The story, like most, is about a lot of things—about loneliness, and loss, and the insufficiency of the modern space heater—but maybe more than anything, it’s a love letter to writing workshops, and to all of the extraordinary humans I’ve come to know over the six years I’ve spent teaching them.

Thanks to Entropy—and Sylvia Chan, specifically—for publishing that story. It’s called “Central Heating.” You can read it here.
